A guide to finding and understanding care

# Clinician prescribed peptides, understood.

An everyday guide to making sense of peptide care and finding it. The health professional who assesses you is called a clinician. A prescription is an order for medicine. Compare the visit, the product and the full bill.

A route into care starts with a conversation.

Where you meet

#### Online

Telehealth means talking with a clinician by video, phone or written messages.

#### In person

You meet in a room. Bring the same questions about your health and what you hope will change.

What the visit must do

#### Online

State medical boards are the offices that license doctors. Advice from the state doctor-licensing boards says online care should meet the same duties as care in person. Ask how the clinician will check your health, arrange needed tests and answer your questions.

#### In person

Ask what needs to be assessed before any treatment is discussed. The setting alone does not answer that question.

After the visit

#### Online

Ask who handles questions, where any tests happen and when a visit in person might be needed.

#### In person

Ask how to reach the clinician between visits and whether follow-up can happen remotely.

Compare how each service will check your health and handle questions after the visit.

## A peptide name is only the beginning

Peptides are tiny strings of building blocks also used to make the proteins in your body.

Insulin belongs to the peptide family. Calling a medicine a “peptide” tells you nothing about the condition it treats.

Start with the exact medicine name. Then ask which kind of product is being offered.

Medicines are reviewed for specific uses by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Semaglutide, sold as Ozempic and Wegovy, is one medicine with FDA approval as of September 2026.

Some approved peptide medicines help control blood sugar or manage weight.

Ask what the exact medicine would treat in your case.

A pharmacist or doctor mixes a compounded medicine to meet the needs of a patient.

For these mixtures, the FDA does not assess harm, benefit or quality before patients receive them, as of September 2026.

The medicine

What a prescription does and does not prove.

The visit

### [Bring questions that need real answers.](/briefings/question-brief/)

Questions that turn a vague offer into a clear plan.

The offer

Claims and sales shortcuts that deserve a pause.

Sources for this briefing

Choose the source for your question. For a doctor’s licence, use the state licence search. For a medicine’s approval, ask to see the FDA approval and approved label for that exact product.
