Care briefing
The visit ends. The questions may not.
Ask how the plan will be reviewed before leaving the first visit. A prescription can be part of the plan; it does not explain how ongoing care will work.
FDA is short for Food and Drug Administration, the US agency that reviews medicines.

Starting care and reviewing it
Read sourcesThe goal
First conversation
Write down what the plan is meant to address and what the clinician needs to learn next.
Later conversation
Bring back what has changed, what has not and what you still do not understand.
New information
First conversation
Ask where to send a test result or a detail you forgot to mention.
Later conversation
Ask who reviews that information and whether it changes the next step.
Contact
First conversation
Get contact details for questions about your health or medicine, as well as for questions about bills or deliveries.
Later conversation
Ask how the clinician can be reached and what to do if the usual contact route is unavailable.
A usable plan includes who reviews new information and how a question gets an answer.
An online plan can include care in person
The doctor-licensing boards’ group advises sending patients for an in-person visit when an online health check needs an exam or test that cannot happen online.
Ask who arranges the in-person visit or test, and how the results get back to the clinician. Keep a copy of the plan and medicine name together.
Ask who is available after medicine arrives
As of September 2026, the FDA flags weight-medicine services where patients cannot reach a licensed doctor with questions after delivery.
Ask how to reach the pharmacist about the medicine and the prescriber about changes in your health. Get phone numbers or message addresses and expected reply times.
Leave with a plan you can repeat back
What happens next?
Ask what the next review needs to cover and how it is arranged.
What would make the plan change?
Ask what information would lead the clinician to reconsider the proposed care.
What still needs an answer?
Keep any open question in the written plan so it is not lost between visits.
Sources for this briefing
Choose the source for your question. For a doctor’s licence, use the state licence search. For a medicine’s approval, ask to see the FDA approval and approved label for that exact product.
