Care briefing

# Ask for the whole bill.

A medicine price is not always a care price. Put the ongoing cost beside the introductory offer before deciding what fits your budget.

## Visit fee or monthly care fee

[Read sources](/briefings/cost-brief/#source-file)

What the payment covers

#### Per visit

Ask what is included in the visit price and what happens if another appointment is needed.

#### Monthly care plan

Ask what the ongoing fee includes, how often the clinician reviews care and which charges sit outside it.

What to add

#### Per visit

Request separate amounts for the medicine, any tests and future reviews.

#### Monthly care plan

Request the medicine cost as well as the care fee. Ask whether shipping or tests add another charge.

When the price changes

#### Per visit

Ask whether the same fee applies to later visits.

#### Monthly care plan

Ask for the price after any offer ends and the terms for ending the plan.

Compare totals for the same period and the same services. A smaller medicine price can leave other charges outside the headline.

## Dated examples: medicine only

Government listings checked in September 2026 showed semaglutide (Wegovy) tablets starting at $149 a month for the lowest strength.

As of September 2026, the $199 semaglutide (Ozempic) injection-pen offer was for new self-pay patients aged 18 or older living in the US. It covered the first two monthly supplies at the starting strengths.

As of September 2026, later monthly supplies of Ozempic pens cost $349 or $499, depending on strength.

As of September 2026, the $199 starting offer was due to end on December 31, 2026.

These prices cover medicine only. Ask the pharmacy to confirm whether you meet the offer’s terms and what you will pay after two months. Add the visit, tests and other care charges.

## Cash and insurance count differently

As of September 2026, paying a maker’s cash price sits outside insurance and does not count toward the deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.

A deductible is what a plan asks you to pay before certain coverage starts. An out-of-pocket maximum limits what you pay for covered care.

## Get a quote you can compare

### What is the ongoing total?

Ask for a written total with visits, medicine, tests and other charges listed separately.

### What am I agreeing to pay if no medicine is prescribed?

Keep the assessment fee separate from the outcome of the assessment.

Choose the source for your question. For a doctor’s licence, use the state licence search. For a medicine’s approval, ask to see the FDA approval and approved label for that exact product.
